I know it's Wordless Wednesday, but I just had to tell you that a. These owls are living in my friends backyard, and b. I wish I had a longer lens, lol! In the last picture you can see the parent is carrying what looks to be a dead squirrel to the babies. When he saw me taking pictures (I was a good 40 yards away) he flew away.
Beautiful pics!! I do love owls - such sweet little faces. Gret pictures too hon!! Thank you so very much for all of your support - it means so much - feeling like whinney girl of late!!Namaste, Sarah
Aw! They are adorable! We have very large owls here. I don't know what kind they are? Whatch your "Cloud" The owls out here eat little animals...yikes!
Kathleen, those are great pictures! The little owl is just adorable!! I hadn't even noticed the poor little creature in it's talons...yikes!! Guess that's what raptors do huh?
Yikes! I hope it's not a kitten, it sure does look like a kitten tail. But I'm pretty sure it's a squirrel, because although the photo doesn't show it, it's body was long like a squirrel. Maybe it was a very young squirrel that didn't have a bushy tail yet?
I have to say the "catch" looks like a kitten to me too. Unfortunately I know owls definitely hunt young cats as my nephew once lived on a farm and could not establish a barn cat colony cause the owls kept snatching all the young. Evidently, they were easier prey than the rabbits and squirrels.
Beautiful photos! We have one in our backyard also, my attempts to get a good photo have failed! Unfortunately they have been killing my songbirds left and right, wish they would stick to the numerous mice and other rodents!
Kathleen, the shots are just beautiful. when I was young we found an owl with a broken wing. we kept it for the longest time. it would sit on our shoulders. One day it flew off and was gone. It would show up every once in a while and circle the barnyard and then off it would go. Thanks for reminding me of such a lovely memory. Take Care
What a great series of shots you've managed despite the lack of the longed for lens! I know that feeling - birds are so fascinating and I never quite get the shot I want!
How did I miss this post!? Very cool shots. I've been trying to get a shot of a great horned owl that sits on the peak of our bedroom roof! He hoots in the middle of the night waking our pup who runs to the fireplace and growls. One night I swear he was making the neighborhood dogs bark....he would hoot...they would bark...they'd stop, he'd hoot again. We laid in bed laughing. Thanks for sharing, k
