Lurcher Commission

Floss, 14 x 14 inch oil on linen

It felt so good to paint something big, (or at least bigger than a 6 x 6 inch.) This is Floss, a lovely Lurcher girl. I've included a close up shot of her collar and tag - it's so much fun to paint brass:

Last Bonus! Day 36 - Greyhound

Day 36 - Greyhound
5 x 7 inch, oil on panel

SOLD

We've come to the final painting in this series. I don't really want to stop, but need to come up for air. There are a few projects to work on, (including a book of this series), but being so singularly focused on one subject has pushed my work to new levels, and I don't want to lose this momentum. So stay tuned, there is much more to come... This is my beautiful, amber-eyed greyhound, Sephiroth. I thought it was fitting to end the series with him, as he was the inspiration, and I'm donating 10% of the series sales to his adoption group - Heartland Greyhound Adoption.

Bonus! Day 35 - Irish Wolfhound

Day 35 - Irish Wolfhound
5 x 7 inch, oil on panel

SOLD

Fun fact about this painting - it was painted using only two colors - Rembrandt's transparent oxide red and phthalo turquoise, just because I wanted to try it. So happy with the result of this limited palette - perfect for the old world look of the wolfhound.

Bonus! Day 34 - Greyhounds

Day 34 - Greyhounds
5 x 7 inch, oil on panel

SOLD

I wanted to loosen up a little after yesterday's classic portrait. I love the big abstract shape, but then you look closer and see a tender moment between two hounds. Their collars line up, strengthening the imagery of the bond between them. I love how affectionate greyhounds can be towards each other.

Bonus! Day 33 - Borzoi

Day 33 - Borzoi
5 x 7 inch, oil on panel

SOLD

I'll never forget the first time I saw a Borzoi - time and everything around me stood still while I watched this magical creature move like something from a dream. It was like when King Haggard from The Last Unicorn said: '..nothing makes me happy but their shining and their grace. They fill me with great joy. The first time I felt it, I thought I was going to die.'

Except I don't want to drive all the Borzoi into the sea and keep them for myself. But I still feel the same way about them, and all sighthounds, actually. I feel it every day as I watch my greyhound, wondering how anything this beautiful can actually exist.

Bonus! Day 32 - Saluki

Day 32 - Saluki
5 x 7 inch, oil on panel

SOLD

After exploring a Saluki bathed in warm, glowing light at the beach on Day 29, I was spellbound by the warm tones in this Saluki against the cool colors of winter. This piece has a fantasy, Narnia-like quality to me.
