Bully in the Snow, 7 x 5 inch oil on panel
© 2012 Kathleen Coy
My daily painting practice is helping me develop a looser style that I like very much. I painted this little gem today for an upcoming auction for GALT - Greyhound Adoption League of Texas, a wonderful organization that does so much for greyhounds in need, providing medical care and foster homes for these beautiful, sensitive dogs.
Some of you may recognize this dog. It's Bully, of Bully'n Nelson fame. A big thank you to Bully's mom, for letting me paint her beautiful boy. I hope this painting raises much needed funds to help the hounds.

Hi! Beautiful painting! We had once greyhound and they are so wonderful! I visited your other blog for daily paintings, too. Great idea and just beautiful paintings! I love your style and colours! Thank you for a lovely moment! x Teje
Thanks so much for the lovely comment, Teje.
I'm glad you enjoy my paintings.

I'd recognize Bully anywhere! That's a great painting of him, too! I love it!
Thank you so much, houndstooth!
Hah! I thought that must be Bullyn! I really like the style of this painting, Kathleen. You've been quite brave with the warmth of the canvas (or underpainting?) showing through the snow, but it works. The action implied in the rough strokes of the legs, and blurred boundaries between dog and background are just right. Yeay! :D
Thanks so much for your comment, Xan. Yes, that's the underpainting, I always like to tone the surface, whether it's canvas or panel. Sometimes the underpainting shows through, other times I cover it up. It ended up feeling right to have the warmth peaking through the snow, so I let it.

I can't say it better than Xan. Excellent work!
Thank you, Jane!
Love the feeling of this painting. Sheer doggie enjoyment! I have a Kelpie that runs circles in the yard like this. The colors, tone and looseness are just right!
