11 x 14 inches Acrylic on Ampersand Gessoboard
Martin's portrait is finished. It was an honor to paint this beautiful boy. In case you missed Martin's story, he was one of 28 greyhounds and mixes that were seized in a cruelty case in Texas. Everyone who saw the photos of these dogs was horrified. And as more photos became available, everyone fell in love with Martin. Along with his extraordinary beauty, his eyes radiated pure love, even after everything he had been through.
Even though Martin's poor body was too weak to recover, for three weeks he got to know what it meant to be loved. To have a home, to have toys, good food, and a soft bed. He got to know that people are good. To me, Martin represented the face of 'The 28.' This painting is a tribute to everyone involved in pet rescue and fostering everywhere.
Auction and print details to come...

Bless you for doing this, it always breaks my heart to hear people do such terrible things to their animals. You did a wonderful job in capturing this gorgeous dogs spirit.
I agree, he really sums up the FW 28 for me, too! I hope his painting ends up at Holly's house. He was a special, special guy!
Beautiful portrait of a beautiful dog. What a sad story.
A very special portrait which not only captures Martin's spirit, but also has that Kathleen Coy fire in it!

amazing!
A work of sheer perfection...such beauty and soul move from it to the viewer. As a mom to a rescued Old English Sheepdog (9 now, was 7 yrs. when she came home here), I really appreciate your dedication of Martin's portrait. I won't forget his story or his face.
I just saw your portrait and as usual you capture the soul of these beautiful animals. When I read the story behind your portrait of Martin, I actually got a lump in my throat. What a tragedy that he only knew 3 weeks of human kindness. It breaks my heart that we are such a cruel species to these most wonderful and loving of creatures. Thank you for bringing Martin and the 28 to our attention.
Kathleen!
Interesting how Martin actually merges with the background here in certain spots.
A very haunting piece!
